Environmental Licensing

Like any other activity that cause changes to the environment, the pig iron producers are subjected to the environmental licensing. This licensing is granted by COPAM – State Council for Environmental Policy at State level or by competent municipal agencies when this prerogative is granted to the Municipality through specific agreement.

Licensing agencies, whether state or municipal are composed of representatives of federal, state and municipal governments, besides non-governmental organizations, productive sector and organized civil society.

The company interested in obtaining the license must present a detailed technical project of its industrial operations, a Study of Environmental Impact and a Report of Environmental Impact (EIA-RIMA) describing all the environmental impacts and presenting the measures to eliminate or to mitigate them.

The activity is only licensed through a careful analysis of all the legal requirements and, mainly, after the fulfilment of all the measures for environmental protection.
