Establishment of SINDIFER

The Union was constituted in a General Meeting that took place on the 30th of April, 1933. This Meeting was chaired by Mr. José da Silva Brandão. Mr. Alcindo da Silva Vieira and Mr. Alfredo Gomes dos Santos served both as secretaries.

At the Meeting, among other decisions, it was defined the name “Union of Iron Industrials” and elected the first board of directors; President: Dr. Euvaldo Lodi, Secretary: Mr. Alcindo da Silva Vieira and Treasurer: Mr. Orestes Giannetti.

Name change, replacing “Iron Industrials” by “Iron Industry” was decided in an Extraordinary General Meeting held on October 15, 1940. This change was a need to make the name consistent with Article 1 st of Decree-Law No. 2381 dated the 9 th of July, 1940. Among other economic categories, the referred Decree-Law included “Iron Industry” (Steel mills).

Since its founding, 14 Presidents/Board of Directors have alternated and accomplished 28 terms.

Until August 1968, the terms did not follow a strict length of time; as of then, after determined in General Meeting, the terms have had 3 years (36 months) except the one that started in August 1995. For adjustment of dates, this term lasted 40 months and ended in December, 1998.
