Sustainable Steelworks Kit was developed by Ecocarb – Eco Consulting and Agribusiness – under request of United Nations Program for Development (UNDP) within Sustainable Steelworks Project. Established in three different charcoal production sites, Sustainable Steelworks Kit generated a reduction of 366 tons of CO2 in the above mentioned three productions sites. This amount of 366 tons means 35% less greenhouse gases emissions. The State of Minas Gerais is the largest producer of charcoal from planted forests in Brazil. Added to iron ore, the charcoal produces pig iron, raw material for steel manufacturing.

Carboraad

The kit is a program for the control and simulation of the carbonization process called Carboraad The program, developed by the engineer Túlio Jardim Raad, replaces the traditional method to produce charcoal. Carboraad has already been used in medium and large charcoal manufacturers and, with the Sustainable Steelworks Project, it was installed, free of charge, in small charcoal productions, increasing productivity and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
